The meaning of 'Bollard' is a post on a pier to keep the ship at anchor so that the ship cannot leave. Actually, it is made of steel and is deeply grounded by filling into the top hole with concrete. It's standing there holding a boat that's much bigger than its own size. Everyone faces a "being"of own power as this "Bollard", each with different reasons or unconsciousness holding on to their own life in their day by day. You're looking at yourself like this. I hope that experience of watching this "Bollard" quietly could be a consolation for our contemporaries living fiercely.
볼라드란, 기둥이란 뜻으로 한자어로는 계선주를 의미합니다. 배가 떠나가지 못하게 정박해 둘 때 홋줄을 동여매어두는 기둥인데, 본디 강철로 만들어져 상단의 구멍 안으로 콘크리트를 채워 땅 깊게 고정되어 있습니다. 자신의 크기보다 훨씬 큰 배를 붙잡아두고 서 있습니다. 모든이들이 각자 다른 이유를 가지고, 또는 의식하지 않은 상태로 자기자신의 삶, 하루하루를 살아가는 힘의 존재를 홋줄 하나 붙들며 버티고 있는 계선주의 모습으로 마주하게 됩니다. 이렇게 스스로의 모습을 바라보게 되는거죠. 우뚝 서 있는 볼라드를 조용히 바라보는 경험이 치열하게 살아가고 있는 우리를 위로할 수 있었으면 좋겠습니다.
계선주
끈질기게 붙잡고 버티고있다.
안간힘으로 묶어두었던 홋줄 끝에 무언가는 다시 떠나거나 다시 찾아오길 반복한다.
이곳 저곳 피어있는 계선주를 마주대한다.
